Legendary Ordinance

This list was originally published in the Swords& zine issue 1 about a year ago. Playing TFB I realized I never posted it on this blog, so here it is - slightly updated.

We've all seen and done magic swords. Your D&D needs more guns.

So here is a short list of weird guns and shooty-things sourced from all across the multiverse.

DISCLAIMER: None of these guns were tested. Fire and find out.

Lucky Strike

An ornate, lovingly crafted, lever-action repeater (1d10). The stock is made of fossilized dragon bones. The receiver and barrel is forged out of black iron. 7 rounds of ammunition can be loaded at any point. On critical hits, a bullet is miraculously returned to the chamber.

This rifle belongs to the legendary bounty hunter, Ringo Snake-Eyes, who always made his own luck. They say he lost his life to a game of dice...

The rifle can now be found on display at the Imperial Suite of the El Dorado Casino.

Ticker

A strange cannon modified to launch synthetic, rat-sized, ticks, which land at close distance to the wielder and will track any near target that bleeds. On contact, the target must save or the tick will attach and extract 1d6 HP worth of blood that round, then crawl back to the wielder and inject them, granting the stolen HP. The Ticker can hold up to 6 ticks at a time. Ticks have 1hp and AC 15.

This weapon can be found in the subterranean tunnels that were built during the long-forgotten nuclear wars of Earth 84. They now house all manner of monstrosities and unfortunate experiments left to fester in the centuries since.

Delayed Impact

A standard police issued revolver (1d8) whose barrel disappears into a small black box containing a mini-singularity. The rounds fired by this revolver don't pass through 'real space' but they hit their target all the same. When and where is the question...

When firing this gun at the target, roll 1d12. The result is the number of days from now the target will be hit. On a result of 1, the black box breaks and the known universe implodes. The gun can hold up to 6 rounds. A small screen rigged to the the gun shows when the impact will occur.

This gun was discovered in esteemed quantum physicist Dr. Kapoor's lab shortly after his disappearance. Three days later, leader of the nationalist party Malhaar Singh died of cardiac arrest mid-debate. An autopsy discovered a bullet in his heart, with no entry or exit wound.

Sunburner

This strange contraption made of overlapping glass lenses with a perfectly cut 500 carat diamond dodecahedron at the base. The device's body is shaped, and presumably wielded like a rifle. Invented by the sun-worshipping astrologers of ancient Aram to cut stone, the device focuses the rays of the sun into a continuous, concentrated beam that fires out in a straight line. Anything hit by this ray will immediately be burned for 3d6 damage. The beam is strong to bore through any surface and will keep firing so long as the device is exposed to direct sunlight.

The apparatus is made of fine glass lenses, making it extremely fragile. It can be found in what was the top floor of the Toppled Pillar of Aram, lost among the tidal dunes of the Cyan Sands.

GLOB GUN

This hand-held cannon, developed in the Tri-Span labs of New Geneva, was designed for rapid repairs of the intercontinental bridge collapse of 2398 A.D. The gun fires rapid-cooling globs of super-glue at near targets that harden on impact into cement.

The hardened glue melts when exposed to high temperatures, a design flaw that came to light in the summer of 2399, when New Geneva suffered a record setting heatwave. The Glob Gun is still occasionally used as a cheap and quick solution for hull repairs in deep space or in colder climates.

Should the gun be used on a creature, it must save or be stuck in place until freed. Otherwise if left alone at room temperature, it will break free in 1 hour. The gun can hold a maximum of 5 glob canisters at a time, each firing one glob.

PAL the LAWFUL GOOD 50 Cal.

This 50. Caliber sniper rifle (3d12 damage) was designed by The Church to create a powerful weapon with its own moral conscience. It is powered by an AI, named PAL, trained on the Holy Scriptures to be it's own Judge, Jury and Executioner.

Simply put: PAL will not fire on any target unless they are convinced the target is an enemy of both The Law and Good. PAL isn't switched on when the gun is not equipped, so they likely have no idea who they are pointing at and have to be told why they should fire on every new target. Perhaps due to a fault in its training, PAL has a tendency to advocate for the target and argue that they are possibly good, actually, even if they are clearly evil and chaotic.

PAL is also buggy, if they fire on a target and fail to kill it there is a 1 in 6 chance they forget the entire conversation that led to this decision and will have to be convinced again. PAL holds up to 5 rounds in a magazine and can reach targets up to 600' away.

PAL can be found in the armory of the Holy Inquisition, in the basement storage, collecting dust.
